Q: Do I need dance shoes?

While dance shoes make it easier to do some swing moves, they are not at all a requirement. Keep in mind that Balboa involves a lot of shuffling, so rubbery sneakers or athletic shoes will be harder to dance in.

Q: Where are classes held?

Studio Axé, 2928 E Broadway Blvd. The studio is located on Broadway just west of the Broadway Village Shopping Center and shares a parking lot with the Bisbee Breakfast Club.

Q: Where do I park?

There is ample parking in the lot in front of the studio.

Q: Do I need a partner to attend?

Absolutely not! During our lessons, we rotate every few minutes, so everyone gets a chance to dance with a partner.

Q: I’ve never taken a dance class in my life. Can I still come?

At the Beyond the Balboa Basics workshop we do plan on teaching at a level for those that have attended some Balboa classes.  If you have not taken any Balboa classes, but are still interested we can catch you up with some private lessons.  Contact us at swingtucson@gmail.com and we can arrange something.

Q: What are some good swing songs to practice Balboa?

Everyone has their favorites, but here are a few to get you started.

Q: Do I sign up as a lead or a follow?

Historically men danced the lead role and women danced the follow role, but today you may see people switching roles on the dance floor.  The choice is up to you, but we are limiting our registration to 10 leads and 10 follows.
