FAQ

Q: Do I need dance shoes?

While dance shoes make it easier to do some swing moves, they are not at all a requirement. Keep in mind that Balboa involves a lot of shuffling, so rubbery sneakers or athletic shoes will be harder to dance in.  We do not recommend flip-flops.  Leather or suede bottom should of any kind work best.  If all else fails bring a thick pair of socks.

Q: Where are classes held?

Creative Tribe, 236 S Scott Ave. The studio is located upstairs, inside the Brings Building.

Q: Where do I park?

The parking lot immediately north of the building on Scott Avenue is first come first serve and there are plenty of two and six hour street parking spots within a short walk. If you need to unload equipment there are temporary parking spots available in front of the building.

Q: Do I need a partner to attend?

Absolutely not! During our lessons, we rotate every few minutes, so everyone gets a chance to dance with a partner.

Q: I’ve never taken a dance class in my life. Can I still come?

Definitely! No prior dance experience is required.

Q: What are some good swing songs to practice Balboa?

Everyone has their favorites, but here are a few to get you started.

Q: Do I sign up as a lead or a follow?

Historically men danced the lead role and women danced the follow role, but today you may see people switching roles on the dance floor.  The choice is up to you, but we are limiting our registration to 10 leads and 10 follows.
